Volunteer

Boosters supports the whole Music Department at Howard: band, choir, orchestra, guitar, piano, jazz band, and marching band. We provide volunteers for fundraising, ticket & merch sales, event logistics, etc. There are many opportunities for families and students to lend their time to make our school year a success! Please refer to the various sections below to see where you might be able to lend a hand.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEERS
Stay tuned for Music Department volunteer opportunities for the 2026-2026 school year!

MARCHING BAND VOLUNTEERS
FYIs:
  • There are lots of veteran band parents/guardians to help you learn a new task <3
  • Drinks and snacks: for those that sign up to provide drinks or snacks, drop off is typically at the rear/outside doors of the band room (stadium side of the school) at volunteer call time; if dropping off during school hours, you'll have to drop them at the front office.
  • At-home football games: volunteers MUST check-in with ticket takers at the Lion Statue side (right side of the school) ticket gate. They will have a list of volunteers who have signed up. After checking-in, proceed to the rear/outside doors of the band room. Volunteers enter the games for free. Refer to sign-up-genius or Band app for specific details as dates draw near. Any same-day volunteer additions or cancelations must be conveyed to the volunteer coordinator ASAP so that they can have the Athletics Department inform the front gate.
  • Competitions: students ride buses to the competitions (as long as we meet our fundraising goal!), families and volunteers provide their own transportation; volunteers typically pay for entrance; look for a detailed schedule from Dr. Frisch as each competition date draws closer (depending on the job, some volunteers will meet us at Howard HS and some will be able to meet us at the competition locations)
  • Parades: self-transport and/or carpool; look for a detailed schedule from Dr. Frisch as each parade date draws closer (depending on the job, some volunteers will meet us at Howard HS and some will be able to meet us at the parade assembly area)

OPEN BOARD/LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
Several Music Boosters Board and leadership members have graduated this year! If you think you may be able to step into any of these positions, *now* is the time to shadow our wonderful booster veterans, before that knowledge base is gone!
Members of the board and leadership are expected to attend all Boosters meetings (once a month).

  • Treasurer - We can't have a Boosters Club without a treasurer! Position needs filling ASAP! We have an assistant treasurer but we need a main treasurer, like... yesterday!! The treasurer handles monthly treasurer reports, reimbursement requests, payments, tax forms, etc.
  • Dine Out Nights Coordinator - works under VP of Fundraising to coordinate fundraising nights at area restaurants at various times throughout the year. Double-checks with PTSA & Lions Pride (Athletic) Boosters so we don't overlap nights.
  • Corporate Sponsorships Coordinator - works under VP of Fundraising. This is primarily summer job so the position needs filling ASAP! Coordinates outreach to area businesses to renew or secure new sponsorships before the school year starts. This will allow us to give their businesses "shout-outs" during the marching band season (which begins in August) and in the various Music Department concert programs throughout the school year. A list of last year's sponsors is available to use again and build upon. A sponsorship request letter is already drafted for your use.
  • Choir Liaison - serves as a go-between for the choir director, the Music Boosters, and families. Attends all boosters meetings.
  • Room Reservation Coordinator - works under the Secretary. Are you versed in the HCPSS room reservation system aka EMS (https://hcpss.emscloudservice.com/web/)? We'd love your help! Once you know how the software works, it's not too bad. We'd like to take this job off the Secretary's plate. If you are new to the EMS system, a current booster member can help you with a quick tutorial.
